Funds place |
In the course of the past years the Principality of Liechtenstein became increasingly popular among international investors as a funds place.
Basis for investment fund activities in Liechtenstein was originally the law on investment undertakings adopted in the year 2005. On 1 August 2011 the so called "Law on certain entities for collective investment in securities" came into force,
which implements the respective EU directive for collective investments. Since Liechtenstein is member of the European Economic Area (EEA) this adoption of EU law will greatly facilitate the distribution of Liechtenstein funds in the European Single Market.
An investment undertaking can be formed either on a contractual basis (as trusteeship) or by incorporating a joint-stock company with corporate structure.
Three types of investment undertakings can be distinguished:
- investment undertakings for securities
- investment undertakings for real estate
- investment undertakings for other values (investment undertakings with increased risk and investment undertakings for qualified investors)
Investment undertakings are supervised by the Financial Market Authority (FMA).
